Some films have stayed with me since I first saw them, and I can watch them whenever I want to have fun, relax, or get into a certain mood. And there are those films that have impacted my work, my professional journey, and thus my life, and they have become a part of my life. Ridley Scott's 1979 "Alien" and John Carpenter's 1982 "The Thing" are two works I can safely say are like that. The imagery, atmosphere (and motifs that fit the theme of cosmic horror) appearing in these films have gradually infiltrated and incorporated into some of my works and guided my hand subconsciously when I had to place colors and shapes on the canvas. But for some time now, a project has been maturing in me that presents all of this in a focused way within the framework of a story. Thus, the "Alien - Phantasm of the Void" fanart project was born.
I don't aim to recreate or transform the Alien universe and its building blocks. I want to create something that respects the visual world of the '79 Alien and '86 Aliens films and uses their building blocks to create something that is part of this world but still something new and thought out, examined from a different perspective.
It is a cosmic horror story in which human characters must fear the shapeless terror lurking in the darkness and the consequences of a war between faceless and soulless corporations. The Xenomorph was never just an insect that wanted to reproduce, with no purpose or consciousness, and just evil and destruction incarnate. For me, there was always something timeless, cosmic, and terrifyingly intelligent and conscious about it. I wanted to place this creature (coming from a distant unknown cosmos) into an environment where the natural elements are destructive, and the human environment is soulless and paranoid.
You will gain insight into the story little by little. I will share illustrations and concept art showing locations, characters, tools, and the building blocks of this cruel world.
I hope you will enjoy the journey.
(Note: This is a personal project and not an official, with collaboration with the IP holder. I created this primarily to entertain the viewers, consumers, and myself. Every moment of this creative process is essential to me, and I like to immerse myself in every detail. This is why the use of AI image-generating software is unacceptable to me. A powerful component of the creative process is when the creator does not have infinite time, resources, and the opportunity to implement anything immediately. These obstacles and challenges often lead to solutions that make a project special.)
